The Kings made their first round of cuts today, sending Jacob Middleton, Matthew Mistele, Michael Amadio, Jake Marchment, Spencer Watson and Roland McKeown back to their junior teams. There’s no real surprise here, given that Darryl Sutter said earlier today that “I don’t like those kids missing [junior hockey] games if they can’t keep up in this camp.” The Ontario Hockey League season opens tomorrow, so all OHL players (with one exception) drafted in 2014 were reassigned.
That one exception is Alex Lintuniemi, who got into last night’s split squad game in Glendale. The 2014 second round pick shed weight between last season – his first with the OHL’s Ottawa 67’s – and was impressive in his rookie game in Glendale last week prior to debuting last night. Lintuniemi skated with the afternoon group at Toyota Sports Center today, so the tall Finn appears to have made a strong impression with the club.
Consider it a birthday present for Lintuniemi, who turned 19 today.
Things you don't hear every day… Darryl Sutter singing a few bars of "Happy Birthday," to prospect Alex Lintuniemi.

Brandon Maxwell, Taylor Burke, Stephen Harper and Conor McGlynn were released from training camp.
