On holding training camp at Staples Center:
First time in the building for lots of ‘em. There’s no disadvantage of having your own practice facility, but when you don’t have camp ever in the big building, some of the guys never get to experience it, so it’s good. It gives ‘em another sort of a carrot, something they can visualize and see down the road.
On the early preseason schedule:
Yeah, there’s one game over already. [Reporter: Does it almost get too early? Is there a point to playing this soon, or just to get your competitive juices going?] Well, when you play seven games, not everybody’s playing seven games unless they have a serious conditioning problem. So usually most guys get in three to five. And I don’t mind the doubleheader tomorrow, because, quite honest, there are a lot of players who wouldn’t normally get one game. So it certainly gives them an opportunity, and also it gives the coaches the opportunity to not have to use everybody.
On roster rules for preseason games:
Yeah, there are eight [regular players] that qualify. I think it’s 30 games last year, 100 in your career, first rounder from this year’s draft. Goaltenders, it’s so many games on the roster. It’s not that big a deal. I think it’s eight, and it used to be maybe 10?…If you’re the right type of player, you only need four games. So that’s all we should play.
On whether Jarret Stoll will get into preseason games:
Yeah, he’ll get three or four, for sure. That’s kind of what we want to do with everybody. We’re just sticking right to the program that we had for him. We wanted him to skate two days, take the third day off and start ramping again from there. Get into more contact, and by the time we get into that Game 4 or 5 in there, we should be ready.
On the goaltenders for the split-squad games:
All four guys will play tomorrow. All four except for Maxwell. He’s the only one who won’t. We’re going to split ‘em.
