May 21 postgame quotes: Joel Quenneville

Joel Quenneville, on the turnaround in the loss:
I really liked how we played for 38 minutes. We did everything we were looking to do. They got a little momentum at the end of the period scoring a big goal for them on an innocent play, gave them some life. Took a couple funny penalties, they were both in our net, that was it.

Quenneville, on the significance of not getting a third goal:
Had a couple real nice looks there. Still 2-0. We’re still fine at 2-0. You know, we get in after two, you’re up 2-0, it’s a different game. The way it turned on a dime like that, I don’t know if we’ve seen a game like that all year where we’re doing everything all right and all of a sudden it was a disaster.

Quenneville, on whether there were any lapses in concentration:
I don’t know about that. They got excitement. One of those plays at the net goes in, you get energized off of that. We’ve seen this team in the playoffs, what they’ve been able to do when their backs are against the wall. We got to play right through periods, we got to play right through games. They’re relentless in a lot of ways. We got to make sure when we get a chance like tonight, we got to put ’em away.

Quenneville, on whether he saw “the wheels coming off”:
No. I thought we played perfect for 38 minutes. They get a break, it goes in. Two power play goals that were nothing plays for me, ends up both in our net. Now all of a sudden we got to press, open it up. Played into their hands.

Patrick Sharp, on the loss:
I think for the most part, across the board, we know that we need to file this one, learn from it and be ready for Game 3.

Sharp, on the game’s turnaround:
Once they get the lead and we started doing some things to create some offense and seemed like it gave them a few more chances. But regardless, whatever the situation may be, we can’t be happy with that at all. Across the board, we can look at ourselves in the mirror and know that we can be better for Game 3.

Corey Crawford, on the loss:
I mean, that was a good hockey game for us the first forty minutes and then a little bit of penalty trouble and they just took advantage. That was the game right there. We were trading momentus throughout the game, but I thought for the most part we had the better chances until the third period. I don’t know, it was just kind of a collapse I guess then. That happens. That wasn’t our hockey team. We’ve just got to rest up and prepare for a big game in LA.
