The Los Angeles Kings made their first round of training camp cuts on Monday, reassigning eight players to their junior teams. 49 players remain in camp.
The players reassigned were Justin Auger (Guelph / OHL), Matthew Campagna (Sudbury / OHL), Patrik Bartosak (Red Deer / WHL), Nick Ebert (Windsor / OHL), Dominik Kubalik (Sudbury / OHL), Zachary Leslie (Guelph / OHL), Kurtis MacDermid (Owen Sound / OHL) and Marcus McIvor (North Bay / OHL).
McIvor and Campagna were in camp on tryouts.
Most notable of the cuts is that Valentin Zykov was left off the list. Though I wasn’t at the home preseason game against Phoenix, there were many indications that the Zykov-Shore-Sabourin was the team’s best in the 5-1 loss. Zykov, 18, is expected to return to a strong Baie-Comeau squad in the QMJHL but will draw a longer look in camp. This is a positive sign for Los Angeles’ top pick in the 2013 draft.
Defenseman Alex Roach remains in camp. The 20-year-old is eligible to play with both AHL-Manchester and WHL-Calgary.
The Kings continue the preseason with a 7:00 game against the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center on Tuesday evening. The game will be carried live by Nick Nickson and Daryl Evans on KTLK AM 1150 and I Heart Radio.
