Dean Lombardi is scheduled to address the media in a conference call at the bottom of the hour; before that gets going, here are several notes and links on Matt Frattin and Ben Scrivens.
Maple Leafs Hot Stove: 2012-13 Player Review: Matt Frattin (June 5)
The Globe and Mail: The Maple Leafs secret weapon: Matt Frattin? (May 6)
Toronto Star: Leaf goalie Ben Scrivens weighs in on upcoming changes (June 6)
Ron Hextall, on the trade:
“This has been ongoing. I think whenever you like the principal pieces of a deal – we liked their pieces; they liked our piece – and it’s been ongoing for I want to say months.”
Hextall, on Matt Frattin:
“Matt is a power forward. He’s got speed. He’s a real powerful body. He’s got good hands. He can score goals. He’s a gritty player. He’s a playoff-type of player, and we’re really excited about acquiring Matt.”
Hextall, on Ben Scrivens:
“He was a backup there in Toronto. He’s got real good numbers. He’s a talented guy, but I think the biggest thing about him is that he’s a battler. He fights through. He works hard. He competes, and we feel like with Jonathan Quick he’ll be a nice compliment.”
Hextall, on trading Jonathan Bernier:
“Well, it’s two-fold. It’s kind of bittersweet for us. Jon’s been with us a long time. He’s been a great soldier for us, and he’s been a very good player for us. Unfortunately, he’s stuck behind Jonathan Quick, which is a tough situation for Jon, and as a sense of fairness to him, and at the timing that we felt was best for the organization, we made the move. We wish Jon the best and thank him for everything he’s done for us.”
