On his goal with 0.2 seconds remaining in the second period:
“That was a fortunate break. Turnover in neutral zone. Scuds got it up to me. I cut to my wing and I heard the bench yell, ‘Shoot!’ So it’s pretty simple after that. It just went off of…Polak’s stick.”
On whether he can ever remember scoring a similar goal:
“The timing? No. I don’t think I’ve ever scored with point-two seconds left, or whatever it was. I’ll take it.”
On whether he heard the arena yelling “Shoot, shoot shoot”:
“Yeah, I did.” [Reporter: How much did that come into play, by the way – or the guys on the bench?] It’s a big help. Any time the bench talks, whether it’s heads up for a hit, or ‘You’ve got time,’ or ‘Chip,’ things like that – I think there were probably 20 guys and three coaches yelling for me to shoot. [Reporter: How much time did you think you had?] They’re not going to yell with 10 seconds left, so I knew. They’re timing it. Some are looking at the clock at the same time they’re looking at me. You’ve got to trust your teammates.”
On his flair shown in the offensive zone in addition to the goal:
“I had maybe visions of grandeur coming down on the second-to-last shift. But if you don’t try, you don’t know.”
On winning four straight games to end the series:
“That’s kind of like a sweep, I guess. But it’s definitely a relief. They played a great series. They got unlucky a few times.”
