The Key Three: Feb. 7

Filming starts in El Segundo next week, for the new feature film titled, “The Los Angeles Kings and the Quest for the Third Goal.’’ It’s tough to say what is more remarkable: the fact that the Kings are undefeated in regulation (15-0-1) when they score at least three goals in a game, or the mere fact that they’ve only reached that three-goal mark 16 times in 54 games this season. Last night’s game was a victory for defensive structure. Tampa Bay, by design, is a high-scoring team, but the Lightning’s only goal came off a broken stick. Otherwise, the Kings wobbled a bit in the first period but never toppled, and got strong defense and typically outstanding play in goal. To be certain, the Kings will face more effective goalies than Dwayne Roloson going forward, but they got their third goal and their victory.
