Sutter postgame quotes (Jan. 17)

Darryl Sutter’s postgame thoughts…

(on the game…)
SUTTER: “I thought we played a hard game. We had a really good first period, which is tough to do in this building. We probably weren’t rewarded early. We had all those good looks. They blocked a lot of shots and Luongo made some good saves.’’

(on changing the shootout lineup…)
SUTTER: “Pretty much I had just stuck with they had had success with before. In our last two or three, the bottom line is that success in shootouts is winning it. Willy [Justin Williams] has been hot. Johnny [Jack Johnson] is a guy who, I think he’s only had one, but he scored before. Mike is a clutch guy.’’

(on the odd-man attacks…)
SUTTER: “I’m sure if you talked to them, they wouldn’t want odd-man rushes against them. You try to come up with ways to get them. At the end of the day, most of them are battles on the boards, to create them.’’

(on the Kings’ puck support…)
SUTTER: “We are trying to get our centermen to continue to be better players in our zone. When you play a team like Vancouver, and they have those three guys up the middle, Sedin, Kesler and Hodgson, you better have your hammer cocked.’’

(on Jonathan Quick’s game…)
SUTTER: “He was fine. I think both goalies kept it a 2-2 game.’’

(on Vancouver’s game-tying goal…)
SUTTER: “We just have to be quicker moving the puck. We had an opportunity to move it behind the net, and didn’t. Against a team like that, they’re going to turn the puck over, and that’s all that matters.’’

(on scoring a power-play goal…)
SUTTER: “We talked about how Vancouver takes a lot of penalties, and you have to try to cash in. Shot, rebound.’’

(on getting five of a possible six points on the trip…)
SUTTER: “If we would have been right on top of it in Edmonton… That was a tough turnaround. That was poor scheduling, when you play at 8 (p.m.) and then 6. You play two games in, really, less than a day. That makes it hard on you on the road.’’
