Game 46: Oilers 2, Kings 1 (FINAL, OT)

On a cold night in Alberta, it’s the Kings and the Edmonton Oilers. All the action is on Fox Sports West and on 1150-AM and affiliates, with all the updates here as well…

In goal: It’s still Quick vs. Dubnyk.
Oilers 2, Kings 1: The Kings’ Justin Williams got called for high-sticking 2:45 into overtime, and the Oilers scored the game-winner 21 seconds later. Quick made a save, but Taylor Hall, to the right of the net, knocked the rebound into the net. Shawn Horcoff and Ales Hemsky got assists.

In goal: It’s still Quick vs. Dubnyk.
Kings 1, Oilers 1: The Kings got on the scoreboard and tied the game 6:22 into the period. Slava Voynov, on his 21st birthday, fired a slap shot from the blue line, through traffic. Justin Williams got the deflection and the goal. Anze Kopitar also got an assist and now has 400 career NHL points.
End of period: The Oilers outshot the Kings 31-21 in regulation.

In goal: It’s still Quick vs. Dubnyk.
End of period: The Oilers outshot the Kings 13-8 in the period. The Kings went 1-for-1 on the power play and did not have a power play. The Kings have had more shot attempts blocked (15) than than shots on goal (14) in the game, and haven’t had more than a couple threatening scoring chances through 40 minutes.

In goal: It’s the Kings’ Jonathan Quick against the Oilers’ Devan Dubnyk.
Oilers 1, Kings 0: The Oilers clearly had the better of the action early, and got rewarded with a goal at the moment their first power play expired. Jeff Petry fired a one-timer from the left point and Josh Green, parked in front of the net, deflected the puck past Quick with 8:39 remaining in the period. Magnus Paajarvi also got an assist. Green was a first-round draft pick of the Kings in 1996 and played 27 games for the Kings in 1998-99.
End of period: The Oilers outshot the Kings 12-6 in the period. The Kings went 0-for-1 on the power play and (officially) 1-for-1 on the penalty kill.
