Changes to come? What about Westgarth?

In practice today, the Kings skated with the same lines and defensive pairs that they used in last night’s game against New Jersey. After practice, though, Terry Murray said he hadn’t decided whether he would stay with the same lineup.

MURRAY: “I’m not sure. I just wanted to get through today’s practice. It was most important that we had video and a team meeting before practice. That was the priority for today, to review and get a little work in. I’m very aware of where we’re at on this road trip. I didn’t want to ask too much of the players on the ice. So I’m going to give it some thought here this afternoon.’’

The Kings were on the ice for only about 35 minutes this afternoon, at the end of a grueling 15-day trip. And what about Kevin Westgarth? Westgarth played 56 games last season, as Murray seemed to prefer having a heavyweight in the lineup on a regular basis, but Westgarth has been a healthy scratch for two of the first three games. I asked Murray if he had changed his philosophy at all in terms of having Westgarth in the lineup…

MURRAY: “Not at all. I’m trying to get him back to where he was at the end of (last) year. I think his little go-around with Anaheim had an impact on who he is right now, so we’re just giving him some opportunity to get his feet under him, handle some pucks, get some skating in and get back to the game that we saw last year.’’
