Some notes from today’s game…
— The Kings opened their season with a 3-2 overtime victory over the New York Rangers at Ericsson Globe in Stockholm.
— The Kings were 1-4 last season in games decided in the five-minute overtime.
— Jack Johnson scored a power-play goal 4:08 into overtime. It was the first game-winning goal of Johnson’s NHL career, in his 283rd game.
— Mike Richards scored a goal in his Kings debut, and also assisted on Johnson’s goal. Richards had 14 multi-point games with the Philadelphia Flyers last season.
— Anze Kopitar scored a first-period goal and also assisted on Johnson’s goal. Kopitar had 20 multi-point games last season.
— Justin Williams, Brad Richardson and Dustin Brown each had one assist.
— Jonathan Quick stopped 24 of 26 shots.
— The Kings outshot the Rangers 30-26, including 13-4 in the first period.
— The Kings went 1-for-5 on the power play and 1-for-1 on the penalty kill.
— Jack Johnson and Justin Williams each had a team-high four shots on goal. Matt Greene was credited with a game-high five hits and Williams was credited with a game-high four blocked shots.
— Drew Doughty led the Kings in ice time at 26:54, followed by Anze Kopitar at 21:45.
— The Kings won 26 of 60 faceoffs (43 percent). Anze Kopitar won 12 of 24 draws (50 percent) and Jarret Stoll won 6 of 12 draws (50 percent).
