Kings try to stay in good shape in circle

After being at 50 percent or below in the first four games, the Kings won the faceoff battle in Game 5, as they won 31 of 56 draws (55 percent). That’s a strong outcome against a San Jose team that ranked second in the league in faceoff percentage in the regular season, and Jarret Stoll deserves much of the credit, as he went 15 for 17 on draws. Also, after a rough outing in Game 4, Michal Handzus won half of his draws, and the Kings managed to win 6 of 10 in shorthanded situations. Terry Murray talked about the importance of faceoff success…

MURRAY: “That’s a big part of it. That’s a very good faceoff team, and especially on the special teams. You have to win your percentage of them. As we got into the third period the other night, and they’re getting a couple big power plays, you want your faceoff guys to get out and do the job, be able to clear the puck, hopefully to clear off kill off 15, 20 seconds. Stoll, Lewis, those guys did a good job.”
