The view from Nashville

For those planning to drive to El Segundo for practice today, don’t. Practice was called off when the team arrived home last night. How big of an impact — at least in the short term — did last night’s game have on the Western Conference standings? If the Predators had beaten the Kings in regulation, the Kings would have dropped to sixth place, the Predators would have moved up to eighth and the teams would have been separated by one point. Now, the Kings are in fourth, the Predators are in ninth and there’s a five-point gap. Of course, in the West this season, nothing lasts forever (or for more than 24 hours, it seems). It was a disappointing night for the Predators but a memorable one for Nashville defenseman Jonathon Blum, the Long Beach native who scored his second career NHL goal against the team he grew up watching.
