It’s been almost three weeks since Terry Murray first raised the issue of the Kings’ tendency to allow goals soon after scoring them, and it remains an issue. Of course, it just happened Thursday night, when the Kings took a 2-0 lead in the second period, only to allow Nashville to score a momentum-turning power-play goal exactly one minute later. It also happened Monday against Chicago, when Ryan Smyth tied the game 3-3 in the third period and the Blackhawks scored the go-ahead goal less than two minutes later. In fact, it has happened four times in the last five games. Murray was asked what, if anything, could be done to bring attention to this and change it…
MURRAY: “It should only have to be said one way, one time. It’s an issue, though. It becomes more of a mental thing now, after it’s been happening several times. That’s probably where we’re at right now. We have awareness to it. We’re trying to correct the situation but, there you go, it’s in the net again against us. It has a life of its own after a while. But the bottom line is, you’ve got to be able to shut it down and do the right thing, and that’s where we’re going to get to. We’re a good team, we’re a good defensive club and we’re just going through a difficult stretch right now.”
