Monarchs split two

The Manchester Monarchs went 1-1 in AHL action this weekend, with a 5-2 home victory over Providence on Saturday and a 3-1 home loss to Springfield today. The Monarchs are now 2-2 for the season.

On Saturday, Brandon Kozun scored his first two goals of the season — one on a penalty shot — and the Monarchs scored three third-period goals to break a 2-2 tie. Corey Elkins, David Meckler and Dwight King also had goals for the Monarchs, Oscar Moller had two assists and Jeff Zatkoff stopped 28 of 30 shots for the win.

Today, the Monarchs fell behind 3-0 and lost, as Erik Ersberg stopped 23 of 26 shots. Ray Kaunisto, activated from injured reserve yesterday, scored with assists to Rich Clune and David Kolomatis. The Monarchs next play Tuesday at Portland.
