For all the debate about players, coaches, lines, etc., after two games, it seems to be fairly universally accepted that rookie Brayden Schenn has had an outstanding start to the season thus far. Schenn, centering a fourth line with Kyle Clifford and Kevin Westgarth, played more than 14 minutes in each of the first two games and also had considerable power-play time. Schenn had a couple quality scoring chances in both games and did not appear out of place in an NHL game at all. The Kings can afford to get a few more looks at Schenn before deciding whether to keep him or return him to his junior team, but it’s so far, so good, for Schenn, who has impressed coach Terry Murray.
MURRAY: “I really like what Schenn has done in the first two games. The first one in Vancouver, I thought he was outstanding. He showed great composure. No nervousness whatsoever in the first game of the season, which kind of caught me a little bit. I thought maybe something would be there, but he was composed, he made plays, he competed, he had great scoring opportunities. He makes little plays happen in the offensive zone. He’s going to be a really top player in the game. He plays that skill game, along with some grit and edge to it, so as he matures he’s going to be a dynamic guy for us.”
