Rob Scuderi was happy to shed the nickname “The Piece” when he came to L.A. from Pittsburgh, but Saturday night, he showed why he is a valuable “piece” for a playoff team when he drew the too-man-men-on-the-ice penalty in overtime that led to the game-winning goal. I chronicled the play extensively in last night’s game story, but today Scuderi was asked if he had tried similar plays before, and if it had worked similarly well…
SCUDERI: “A couple of times and, no, actually, it hasn’t. With some bad results too, so I was glad it worked out and we were fortunate to win the game on the power play.”
Scuderi was also asked about the tight-checking nature of the first two games of the series, and what he expected from the rest of the games…
SCUDERI: “For sure, there’s not a whole lot of ice out there. It’s a tight-checking game on both sides. I know they got a lot of shots on us in the first game, but certainly last night I think there were limited offensive opportunities, except in spurts. That’s the way we expect it to be for the rest of the series.”
