Murray postgame quotes

Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts…

(on Jonathan Quick’s game…)
MURRAY: “He was, I think, just building off the game that he played in Vancouver. He was outstanding up there and he brought it back home here today. He made some big stops. You have to play good against Chicago. They’ve got a lot of firepower, two top lines, their back end is very mobile, they get a lot of plays to the net there. They’re moving around and you have to really scan the ice, making sure you’re seeing the right stuf. And then they come up in the shootout the way that he did, he was one of the stars for me tonight.”

(on whether that was Quick’s best game of the season…)
MURRAY: “The last two games, he has played really good. He started off tonight a little bit kind of feeling his way. A couple pucks were kind of bobbled around, but he really settled in very nicely and was huge at the end.”

(on whether Quick can start 70 games…)
MURRAY: “We’re going to find out. I don’t know. I don’t have that answer. What I do know is, he’s a big, thick guy. He’s very strong. He handles all of the crease pressure very well and he comes back the next day and he’s fresh. I have a hard time keeping him off the ice on an optional (practice), on a morning skate. He just likes to get out and feel the puck. He’s married now. He has dinner prepared for him every night. He’s feeling good. He’s a strong guy.”

(on whether he really intends to see if Quick can play 70 games…)
MURRAY: “`It was just a little humor. That’s my dry humor. But we’ll see. I know he can play a lot. Touch wood, if everything moves along and he stays healthy, of course, but physically, strength-wise, he has good abilities to play a lot of games.”

(on Wayne Simmonds’ play…)
MURRAY: “He looks like he was at the end of the season last year, the last 10 games. He’s jumping, he’s got a lot of power in his game. He’s playing a hard, heavy game and going to the net the way he did tonight, scoring a goal, he’s just showing us that he’s maturing and that he wants more. I love what he’s doing. I love his attitude. He’s a good kid and he comes to work every day, so I’m happy for him.”

(on re-establishing strong play at home…)
MURRAY: “The two games that we played at home before the road trip were tough games. We kind of handed those things away. I know we were coming off a long road trip and we can look at all kinds of reasons, but we need to be better in those games. I thought we played pretty good on the road trip. Tonight was a very good effort against a very good hockey club. This is a critical time for us, from this time forward until the Christmas break. We have some big games at home. A lot of stuff is going to happen here in a short period of time, so we have to bring our A game, and I’m really happy with the way we played here tonight, with the right attitude. We executed well, we were heavy and hard at the right time and, again, we’ve got to bring the same kind of effort every night.”
