Behold: Joe Louis Arena

The (winged) wheels have been set in motion for a new arena in downtown Detroit – Nick Nickson and I will discuss this during the first intermission – but until the projected two-year endeavor is completed, Joe Louis Arena remains the home of the Red Wings and one of the fiercest home-ice advantages in the National Hockey League. As someone who went to college in the area, I’ve seen my handful of Kings-Wings and Michigan-Michigan State games in this building, but I wasn’t at Game 5 of the 2001 first round playoff series between these two teams. Were any blog readers at that famous game?
