As you probably know, throughout the Stanley Cup Finals, the Kings had Bob Miller and Jim Fox call games in the event that the Kings won the championship. Bob and Jim’s live broadcast of Game 6 will be part of a DVD included with the Kings’ commemorative book. Today, KingsVision released a video of Bob and Jim calling the Kings’ first goal in Game 6.
Finally, some good news!
[Reply]
Rich, any word/idea about a Blue-Ray version of the game?
[Reply]
Hell yeah!
I was shut out from Bob and Jim after the last home game of the regular season. Had to listen to all of the homer announcers on the networks.
As bad as I am jonesing for the season to begin, I am with the players all the way in this debacle. Stay the course and don’t get railroaded this time!!

@Munchrat,
Me too. I really wish they could just split the difference 50-50 this time around and sign a short term CBA of say 2 years. That would mitigate everyone’s damages and allow them to keep the momentum they’ve finally rebuilt.
[Reply]
I love the system Bob and Jim use – Bob is obviously distracted by the play and calling the game so Jim supports him by watching for any type of tip or deflection. Especially in this game, Bob and Jim are sitting approximately 40 feet higher than their traditional vantage point so as soon as the goal is called Jim holds up a card (presumably with Brown’s name on it) so Bob can seamlessly call the tip by Brown from Doughty. That’s a great team at work.

Do I buy the book and put more money in the coffers of the LA Kings owners? I support the players during this lock out and as a result I am really torn. I already canceled my auto renewal for Center Ice. I REALLY want the book and to hear the call of Bob and Jim. I may have to hold my nose and get this …but then again.

Just a heads up for those that may have missed it, Baileys Buddies are now available for 2012 and have a pretty cool Bailey Bobblehead with the Stanley Cup. All proceeds go to Kings Care, so its guilt free hockey spending!

Some of you guys need to stop feigning like buying this book and all other Cup memorabilia from this incredible season is making you “torn” as to whether or not you want to support the NHL by buying it. You know, I know, and more importantly the owners know that you are going to buy it. I have read far too many “This is the last thing I’m buying” comments on here. It probably is the last thing you are buying, until the next cool thing is released. NHL fans, while few in number, are more supportive of their sport than any other fan base out there, and the NHL knows we (myself included) will come right back once games start up again. Let’s all stop pretending otherwise…

I have to agree with KC23 and JRM above. What a priceless peek into the world of Bob and Jim!
To be perfectly honest, the Kings won the Cup because of their teamwork. Every game won seemed to have at east NINE players with points.
Who knew that commitment to teamwork started up in the booth with the two best broadcasters in hockey?
Bob coming up out of his seat on that goal and Foxy grabbing the info card for him at the same time. Seamless. Honest. Professional.
Oh, how I miss our Kings.

This is why we need Bob and Jim to know what’s going on exactly. I never knew two referees were looking at Stoll’s hit on Gionta, and they felt it was embellishment. Both NBC and CBC never mentioned that fact. No doubt we have the best hockey team and the best broadcaster and the analyst.

@Stuart, While I think the players offer is more than fair, we all know they’re not going to get the owners to budge that much. To me it’s pretty simple. The players main concern is that they don’t want the contracts that they’ve signed to be reduced in any way during the upcoming seasons. The owners ultimately want a 50-50 split. Here’s my proposal:
Keep the players total amount of money, 1.881 billion, the same for next season, and then make it a 50-50 split for the remaining of the new CBA. The players share would be 54% for this upcoming season, which is just slightly below what they’ve offered. With the NHL growing an average of 7% each year, the players wouldn’t lose any of the money that they have signed for. The owners revenues would grow by 7% in each of the next 2 seasons. Then they would share revenue increases 50-50 with the players from the 14-15 season on.
Here’s a numerical breakdown:
Season …. Players % …. Total Revenues …. Player Revenues …. Owners Revenues
11-12 ….. 57% ………. 3.300 billion ….. 1.881 billion …… 1.419 billion
12-13 ….. 54% ………. 3.531 billion ….. 1.881 billion …… 1.650 billion
13-14 ….. 50% ………. 3.778 billion ….. 1.889 billion …… 1.889 billion
14-15 ….. 50% ………. 4.042 billion ….. 2.021 billion …… 2.021 billion
So in summury, the Players 1.88 billion dollars that they made last year stays the same for next season only. They recieve a slight increase in the 13-14 season, and after that it’s an even 50-50 split of revenue increases. The owners take in an additional 230 million next season, and 240 million in the 13-14 season. Problem solved!

@CB14, I like it, little good that does.
Interesting note, the owners went to the NHLPA in June and asked if the could freeze the salary cap this season (no increase from last season) and was given a big fat no. If the players would have said OK would the owners not have asked for salary a rollback?

CB14 Reply:

@Osaka, That’s a good question. Since they were asking to freeze the cap, I guess they then wouldn’t ask for a salary rollback.
luc20rules Reply:
September 20th, 2012 at 7:22 pm
@Osaka, If you do the math a cap freeze would have been 5.9 mil/team or 4.2% of the players share HRR now. I would imagine if it went to a vote in June the only players that would have stood to lose at all were this summers UFAs everyone else wouldn’t have to worry about rollbacks. Although the less money in future caps would eventually affect all players but players like Pronger & Kovi that are signed beyond there playing years. I wonder if the owners gave a guarantee that they would not ask for more during negotiations. My guess is they just wanted to get that concession out of the players and try to start negotiations from there. The only thing that I wonder about is if the players allowed them to freeze the cap would negotiations be preceding without a lockout?
Osaka Reply:

My understanding was that the Kings selling of any video broadcast of those games would have to be for charity purposed, since NBC owns the rights to the video. Therefore, I’d expect that the Kings’ owner’s or the Kings coffers wouldn’t get lined by profits from the Bob and Jim video. But that’s probably where the book comes in. $80 for a book that includes a ‘free’ video.

This video is the coolest thing I’ve seen since… well, that game when it happened. As Kings fans, most of us hold Bob Miller in a place of the highest reverence. This video proves what I always sensed, that Jim Fox works his ass off on these broadcasts, and in his own way is every bit the professional that Bob is. You can love his commentary or not, but he makes that engine run. He may never get HOF accolades, but he certainly has my respect.
