Darryl Sutter’s postgame thoughts…
(on the shootout win…)
SUTTER: “We’re probably fortunate to get an extra point tonight.’’
(on the first period…)
SUTTER: “I’m sure we weren’t happy with our first period and they weren’t happy with their second period.’’
(on the play of the two goalies…)
SUTTER: “Both teams are No. 1 and No. 2 in the league in defense. Both of them made a lot of big saves, ours in the first and theirs in the second. And killing penalties too.’’
(on the overtime penalty kill…)
SUTTER: “Well, when it’s 4-on-3, it’s pretty much, tee it up and hammer it, right? So you’ve got to have the courage to face it.’’
(on whether the Kings and Blues are similar teams…)
SUTTER: “Not really. They’re in first place.’’
(on getting to the top of the division…)
SUTTER: “It was part of the master plan. [laughs] No, it’s not quite that easy.’’
(on knowing the Blues would have a strong first period…)
SUTTER: “They come at you hard. There ain’t no way around it. It ain’t about little boys in the first period.’’
(on improving in the second period…)
SUTTER: “We have to continue to work at forging that identity, that whole compete, commitment thing.’’
(on picking the shootout shooters…)
SUTTER: “Actually, the guys that I picked tonight, I picked them before the last game. It was similar type goalies, and guys who have had maybe a little bit of success. Lots of different things go into it. Those are the three guys that, quite honest, have had the most success, if you look at percentages, for our team. It’s two righties and a lefty. You get to know goalies, what some of their trends are.’’
