Jarret Stoll didn’t play the final seven-plus minutes of the game, but his status is not known. Stoll was slow to get up after a play in the offensive zone, and slowly skated to the bench and appeared to be flexing his leg on the bench. Stoll went to the locker room for a brief period, then returned to the bench but did not take another shift. Darryl Sutter didn’t have much of an update on Stoll after the game.
SUTTER: “I don’t know, to tell you the truth. I was just trying to get nine guys who were going, more than anything else.’’
Stoll had some company on the bench. Dustin Penner came off the ice 7:22 into the third period and didn’t play again, and there were no apparent injury issues with him. Same goes for Trent Hunter, who sat the last 13-plus minutes, and Rob Scuderi, who sat the last six-plus minutes.
What is this Slap Shot in LA? This is a joke right?

@What’s the frequency, Kenneth?, He should be a defencemen and not a forward. You put forwards on the ice to score goals.

Man, I hope he is okay, we would have to look elsewhere for all the goals he has scored this year.
[Reply]
Is that why we couldn’t buy a face off win???????????
[Reply]
I saw Stoll was talikg to the trainer on the bench, grimacing his face in discomfort.
Penner was sat after that lazy play, and that’s understandable.
Hunter wasn’t effective at all.
Don’t know about Scuderi though.

I’m guessing Scuderi was sat just to get more offensive defensemen out there as often as possible, unless he was hurt.

@Michael, At the time of the trade for Penner, it was thought by fans and most media to be a good trade. Unfortunately it hasn’t worked out, but I don’t blame Dean because it was a trade that needed to be made and was a good one. Penner just hasn’t worked out like we’d hoped he would. I trust Dean to make any trades that help the team.

Jeff_R Reply:

@neil, Richards problems are due in part to his injury and the fact that he hasn’t had suitable wingers. The whole offensive meltdown this team has been through is also the reason.

@Jeff_R, yes, i remembered being excited about the trade as well…we all had high expectations for DP…he has let everyone down, but DL does assume responsibility for handicapping the team at forward…it’s no wonder that the team struggles to score when DL has invested so heavily up the middle…This team is in part exactly what DL intended it to be…Defensive minded…ie, strong in nets and D and at center…the writing was on the wall the last few years…he tried to get some UFA s, but for some reason they didn’t want to come to LA…i guess it’s hard for scoring forwards to get used to the notion of playing defense 75% of the time

@Michael, The Penner signing was great on paper…but how is it with all the scouting we do that no one seemed to know that he was bloated and lazy to boot. I’ve watched his play carefully this season, and he blind passes all the time. Turnover after turnover. The guy is not tuned into the game or where his line mates are on the ice. He has singlehandedly destroyed the potential for effectiveness on that line….and calling them our shutdown line is unfair because Penner is soft and doesn’t hit at all. The way I see it, we’ve got no chance to go deep into the playoff’s until we get Penner off the books and get a true shooting winger for the send line.

Has there ever been a more frustrating season in Kings history? When Doughty scored, I was dead silent. It was so overdue, I just couldn’t get excited.

I don’t know what’s with Stoll. He’s trying hard but … everything seems 1 foot off for him, passing, shooting, tippping. It looks like he lost that kind of edge. If he’s hurt then it would be a good opportunity to recover his senses as well as from injury. I think the call up will be made.

@Weekes22, That was pretty soon, Weekesy!
I was hoping the Kings would get shut out again. Maybe put some pressure on both DS and DL? Why does DS consistently choose Hunter over Westgarth? Hunter doesn’t bring anything to the ice whatsoever. At least with Westgarth, you’re getting a guy that has a role. What role does Hunter have? In order for Hunter to be effective as a player, he has to play in the top six, but he’s not good enough for the top six. He’s not a bottom six, physical, energy player. So why the hell is he in the lineup?
If you’re not going to play Westgarth, then why not call up Clune? He’ll bring some attitude, energy, speed, and toughness to the team… I’m flabbergasted.

Whats most puzzling is that I dont see any changes made..big deal, he’s shuffling lines like TM did. I don’t see the coaching staff doing a gosh darn thing, except cash paychecks. I would get rid of them all…
Then, the players…its like they have no vision…how can these rich pro’s get coached into offensive oblivion like that? Isnt there one player or coach on ice that can see the patterns as they develop?
I know something about coaching as I professionally played soccer and tennis, and coached tennis at all levels, as well as Volleyball and soccer..and to my luck, I always had winning teams. But I was objective and didnt have a mindset of what system works and which one doesnt.
I saw, made sense of performance and potential and tweaked. I see none of that here.

@jack,
It wasn’t a line shuffling. Look at TOI in the 3rd period. DS was forced to make some changes becaue of availability. Stoll were out from injury, Pennner was sat. DS didn’t want to use Williams that much. So what choice did he have?

On a side note:

@Weekes22,
put Stoll back on 3rd line center or trade him. He is not and never will be a winger.
[Reply]
Le’s be real. This team does not have an NHL caliber first line.
Kopi Brown and Williams would make a credible second or third line on most any team, but we need a Marquee first line that can put the biscuit in the basket.
[Reply]
I’m calling a middle body injury, a hip-flexer or something like that. After a faceoff, I think Stoll took a crosscheck around the waist and went down to the ice, was very slow in getting up and then was seen talking/grimacing to the trainer…
Hopefully he goes on IR and we bring in some fresh blood.
BY FAR Penns worst game and I recognized that he took last night off early in the 1st… I bet DS would’ve benched a lot more of our forwards if he could’ve. I hope he laid into them afterwards!
Also, I saw MR go by and tap burgertime after their very first shift (second shift of the game) and burger wanted nothing to do with it. It was embarassing to see him out there to finish the game after their EN tally with not even so much as a King looking his way… typical.
[Reply]
Trade Brown & Stall for Carter & a draft pick right now…Brown is and never will be a first line player..Also strip the C off his jersey and give it to someone with heart and stands up for his team-mates
[Reply]
That should read Stoll not Stall

Also, let Penner walk at the end of the year as LA won’t get anything for him now anyway

Sit the whole team, its come to the point where i dont mind missing a game on tv. Years past, I would try everything to a game either in person or on tv live. After the first third of this season, stopped going and have finally come to realize that the kings are boring to watch.
