Anze Kopitar will learn his short-term fate this afternoon. Will he be a member of Team Lidstrom or Team Staal? The NHL will hold its All-Star “draft” tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. Pacific time on Versus — [correction: initially-posted information was for a mock draft...] — and that will kick off Kopitar’s second All-Star experience. Kopitar, who leads the Kings with 49 points (16 goals, 33 assists) this season, is an All-Star for the second time in his five-year career — there was no All-Star Game last year, because of the Olympics — having also made the team in 2008. My LAKings.com feature for this week takes a look at Kopitar and his rise to being considered one of the top players in the NHL. Thanks for reading…
Will there be an online feed of the “draft” for those who don’t get NHL Network??

@KingsFanFTL, well i’m also glad that he’s not there, just for the reasons of sanity. I love the Kings but I also love the league and would be shocked to see someone like Quick taking part in the All-Star game.

@ADub87, I think you are right. Tonight is just a “mock” draft with Lidstrom and Staal.

@Bob Bobson, Or rather Weekes and Johnson pretending to be Lidstrom and Staal.

@ADub87, Thanks for fixing.
Kopi,
When you go, have some fun (don’t be afraid to be a goof for the camera).
Make some friends (prefferably a left winger with some mad skills, and a short contract).
Come back safe.

I’d put money down that whoever will announce the players as they come onto the ice will miss-pronounce his name as AN-ZEEEE Kopitar. But it’s still going to be great to see him there, and not just as a charity case. Kopi is becoming a great two-way guy and it would be awesome if someday he gets to the level where he gets a Selke nomination. I could see it happening.
Think that JJ should have got the nod before PK Subban, but maybe he said “no”. Still, looking forward to the game, I think the new format is kinda cool.

@BluLine77, Subban got picked because he is high profile and very marketable for the league. Young, cocky and skilled, and he plays for the Habs, the centre of the hockey universe.

@BluLine77,
Subban is NOT playing in the AS game. he’s just part of the rookie portion in the skills comp.

Just don’t get hurt. I know it’s a pretty mellow game but it usually starts picking up after a while.

Shine like the Kopistar you are!

I wish Talbot was out there with Kopi. Just for the fact that he called Ovechkin a douch.

Every time I think about this draft, it makes me smile. Grats to Shanny and the NHL for coming up with the idea. There are so many Bettman haters out there, but give him his due. The NHL is more fun to watch, and they’ve come up with some cool ideas like the Winter Classic and the All Star Draft. It’s been on Bettman’s watch that we’ve seen these changes.
