A couple random notes from Day 2…
— Terry Murray praised the fitness level of all of his players Sunday, and in particular, Murray responded to a question about Rich Clune with high praise. “Some of his (fitness) tset scores are exceptional,” Murray said. “There are categories that we test, and he’s one of those players that did extremely well.” I’ll have more later about Clune’s fitness and his lifestyle changes this summer.
— Dean Lombardi was a happy man this morning, because Murray brought out his favorite drill, the “pit” drill, in which Murray drags a net into a corner of the rink and has players battle 2-on-2 in tight quarters. “I run that drill at the end of the practice just so that the players can get some kind of physical contact under their belt,” Murray said. “I don’t want to let it run too long. I’m going with three reps per pair only. It’s very early, but we’re getting into the time when we have to start thinking about exhibition games, and that’s the kind of play that’s going to happen.”
— If you’re a very early riser, you can come check out the Kings’ “breakfast club.” It seems as though Matt Greene is the leader of the group of injured players who have been arriving at 5 a.m. for workouts and skating. If you’re an early riser, you can come to El Segundo and check out Greene, Marc-Andre Cliche, Colten Teubert and Slava Voynov. I’ll be sleeping.
