According to this story on NHL.com, the Kings will open their season with a set of back-to-back road games against Vancouver and Calgary. The Kings will play the Canucks on Saturday, Oct. 9, then play the Flames on Sunday, Oct. 10. The Kings’ home opener will be Tuesday, Oct. 12, against Atlanta.
A note on the first game. Plans have been in place, for a while, for the Kings and Canucks to play the season opener against each other. This will be the 40th anniversary of the Canucks’ inclusion into the NHL, and the Canucks’ first regular-season NHL game was against the Kings, on Oct. 9, 1970. The Kings won 3-1. In this year’s season opener, the Kings are planning to wear “vintage” uniforms, similar to the ones they wore in that 1970 game. If you click this link, the jerseys look very similar to the first purple jersey shown (No. 29). I’m not aware of exactly how many times the Kings will wear those jerseys next season. I’ve heard it might be three or four times.
