Video of Miller/Scully summit, plus AM 570 Miller audio

At Dodger Stadium yesterday, there was a summit of Los Angeles broadcasting legends as Kings play by play broadcaster Bob Miller presented Dodgers play by play broadcaster Vin Scully with a personalized Kings jersey in commemoration of the 88-year-old Scully’s final year behind the microphone. Thanks to our friends at FOX Sports West, this meeting was captured poignantly.

The 67 adorning the jersey, as explained in the video, commemorates the number of years Scully has spent calling Dodgers games. Scully joked about covering up his own name on the jersey with black tape as to draw attention to himself, were he to wear it to a game at Staples Center. A noble thought: why not change “Scully” to “Dowd” or “Cliche,” two last names that have previously been worn above the number 67? Actually, that’s not a very good idea at all. Forget anything was said here.

AM 570’s David Vassegh also caught up with Miller, who shared several interesting bits on the Dodgers’ pregame show. Asked whether he has given any thought as to whether the upcoming season could be one of his last seasons broadcasting Kings hockey, Miller replied, “moreso than ever before.” Based on the interview with Vassegh, Miller hasn’t yet made any firm decisions on whether there would be any rollback in the number of days he broadcasts in an 82-game season, but wants to gauge his energy and stamina as he progresses from quadruple heart bypass surgery and then “take it from there.”
