Muzzin, Greene day-to-day, per Sutter

There’s no real substance beyond what had been reported on Twitter at today’s practice, but Darryl Sutter said that defensemen Jake Muzzin and Matt Greene are “day-to-day,” which should alleviate particularly worrisome concerns about the “upper-body” injuries sidelining the defensemen long-term.

This is good news, even if “day-to-day” sometimes evolve into “week-to-week”-type injuries, given the vague information teams generally provide about their assets and the nebulous tendencies of injury rehabilitation. But, again, it certainly appears as though neither injury is severe.

Muzzin was injured in the first period, presumably when he was hit hard by the Avalanche’s Blake Comeau along the boards in the Kings’ zone, and remained on the ice for several shifts but did not return to the bench for the second period. Greene suffered an injury at some point in the second period, and while he stayed on the bench for the remainder of the game, did not play in the third period or in overtime. That he remained on the bench through the conclusion of the game was already a tip of the hand that the injury was not expected to be long-term.
