Alec Martinez is traveling with the team on its three-game swing through Dallas, Nashville and St. Paul, Minnesota and took the ice while many of his teammates were in the process of heading back to the dressing room following the morning skate.
In a chat with hockey operations this morning, it was learned that the prospect of Martinez returning to game action on this trip was possible, though perhaps a bit optimistic. When it was Darryl Sutter’s turn to provide an update on Martinez, he confirmed the timeline..
“He’s still got a wound,” Sutter said. “Full sutures, so he’ll be a while. It’s not ‘day-to-day.’”
Martinez suffered an injury to his pinky when struck with a shot in a game against Dallas two Thursdays ago. He visited a doctor the following morning, where it was determined that he’d need to undergo surgery to repair his nailbed.
He’ll need to have stitches taken out before he can play again.
“Some of them, yeah,” Sutter said. “He’s got a lot of stitches for a little finger.”
In 17 games this season, the versatile, left-shooting defenseman has seven points (2-5=7) and a plus-nine rating.
