Drew Doughty’s postgame thoughts…
(on the game…)
DOUGHTY: “We’re pretty disappointed as a team in our effort tonight. In that second period, we really held back. Some people might blame the refs, but we were holding back and that’s why we were taking those penalties. It was, in the end, our fault, and we’ve got to learn from it.”
(on being deflated after giving up the first goal…)
DOUGHTY: “I thought we were OK after that. We kind of held it together on the bench and stuff like that. We weren’t too worried about it, but when we started taking all of those penalties, it was taking some of our good offensive players out of the game and guys were having to PK. We’ve got to make sure we’re doing things right and not taking those penalties.”
(on the penalties taking the team out of a flow…)
DOUGHTY: “Yeah, you’ve got two PKers up front, and then their winger is off the ice. It’s tough to do that. Those guys that don’t play on the PK, especially in the second period, they’re just sitting there a while. It’s tough to play a hockey game when you’re not playing. We can’t take those penalties and take guys out of the game.”
(on the overall strong penalty kill…)
DOUGHTY: “We’ve been somewhat successful on our PK because we’ve been aggressive and stuff like that. We are forcing the other team to make that perfect pass. Obviously we made a little mistake there and they capitalized. It was a great shot by Arnott and a good pass by Erat there.”
