Even professional athletes can get a bit star-struck. Last Sunday, Mike Richards — a big tennis fan who has traveled overseas to watch major tournaments — drove out to Indian Wells to watch the ATP Tour’s BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. Richards got to meet Roger Federer, who beat John Isner in the tournament final. Richards posted a picture on Twitter of his meeting and wrote, “Not going to lie, was a little nervous.” Richards had never met Federer before, but the two were able to chat. Richards, who plays tennis on a recreational basis, said he’s been a longtime fan of Federer.
RICHARDS: “Just the way he carries himself. How good he is, that kind of speaks for itself, but just the way he carries himself. In every big event, he seems to step up and play well in those big games. … I enjoy watching him. I think he is my favorite professional athlete. It was pretty cool. He knew a lot about hockey. I talked to him for probably about 10 minutes, so it was pretty cool.”
