The Kings will reach the official midpoint of their season after tonight’s game against the Phoenix Coyotes. All the action will be on Fox Sports West and on 1150-AM and affiliates, with all the game updates here as well…
OVERTIME
In goal: It’s still Quick vs. Smith.
Kings 1, Coyotes 0: The Kings scored 38 seconds into overtime on, fittingly, a crazy play. Drew Doughty took the puck to the net and, as three players crashed around Smith, tried to poke the puck in. The net got lifted and the puck slid over the goal line. After a video review, officials ruled the play a goal. Jarret Stoll and Jack Johnson got assists.
THIRD PERIOD
In goal: It’s still Quick vs. Smith.
End of period: Because 60 minutes of this game just weren’t enough, we get overtime. The Kings outshot the Coyotes 27-22 in regulation. Neither team had a power play in the third period, but the Kings had a handful of excellent scoring chances.
SECOND PERIOD
In goal: It’s still Quick vs. Smith.
End of period: The teams showed a bit more life in the second period, but it didn’t translate to any goals. The Kings outshot the Coyotes 12-5, went 0-for-1 on the power play and didn’t face a penalty kill.
FIRST PERIOD
In goal: It’s the Kings’ Jonathan Quick against the Coyotes’ Mike Smith.
End of period: The Kings outshot the Coyotes 7-6 in a mostly lackluster period. The Kings did not have a power play and went 1-for-1 on the penalty kill.
