LA Kings Development Camp to run July 1 – July 3 in El Segundo

July 1.

Day 1 of NHL Free Agency and Day 1 of LA Kings Development Camp.

Busy one, eh.

The Kings have announced their schedule for 2024 development camp, running from Monday, July 1 through Wednesday, July 3 at Toyota Sports Performance Center in El Segundo. Kings development camp is an annual tradition in the days following the NHL Draft. It’s the first opportunity to see those who were selected in an on-ice setting and the only opportunity each season to see collegiate prospects or select players from overseas who do not attend Rookie Camp in the fall.

Typically a fun week, with on-ice practices and a couple of scrimmages contested between Kings prospects. Historically, this group consists of drafted players who have yet to turn professional or who have not played more than a season in either the AHL or NHL. Over the last couple of years, we’ve seen a more experienced group gather for development camp, including players who have played in NHL and AHL games. Typically, we see players from a three-year draft window attend development camp, or players from earlier drafts who haven’t played a professional season in North America. Look for those drafted by the Kings in 2022, 2023 and 2024 to be in attendance, plus a couple of players from older draft classes who are in various stages of their development. There’s not an exact science to it, but there will be plenty of drafted players in town for the three-day event this summer. Since the 2024 class is not yet determined, we won’t have the full roster until closer to the event.

Each year, the Kings invite guest coaches from various parts of the hockey world. Included this year is NHL veteran and Eisbaren Berlin Sporting Director Stephane Richer, as well as Serge Aubin and Rob Collins, from Berlin’s coaching staff. The trio will join the Kings’ player development staff, led by Glen Murray, to help instruct Kings prospects and camp invitees over the three-day event.
