Kings To Wear Alternate Jerseys On The Road During 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs

The Kings have opted to wear their alternate jerseys on the road during the playoffs……just with a couple of modifications.

If you’re one of those people who are drawing similarities between the 2012 LA Kings and this season’s club, then here’s one more for you….sort of.

If you’re not one of those people then oh well. Enjoy the jerseys.

Love em or hate em, the Chrome Domes will not be a part of the road look for the playoffs, but the jerseys with the chrome logo will. That chrome logo will be ever present, with the Kings wearing the same jerseys and socks that we saw as a part of the 90s Era Heritage Jersey, which has been worn over the last three seasons. The Kings will wear their regular, white helmets, however, along with black gloves. Though the jerseys are different, it certainly looks a lot like the original, 90’s look that the Kings wore way back when. Pretty sharp look, as you’ll see below.

Naturally, decisions like these aren’t made without approval from the players. Few reasons behind the modifications, but long story short is we will not see the standard, white jerseys in Edmonton when the team hits the ice for Game 1. Instead, we’ll see these beauties. Step up, if you ask me.

When these jerseys were originally announced, there was an emphasis on the fact that there was strong affinity to this logo and jersey from the players in the room, but also from the fanbase, with the brand recognition and affiliation strong between the 90’s mark and the Kings organization. The alternate jersey was originally debuted in November of 2021 and has been a steady part of the team’s overall look and feel in the three years since. While I totally get that the chrome helmets had polarizing opinions, I haven’t heard much, if any, opposition to the jerseys themselves, which look pretty good.

The alternate sweater was described as “reintroducing the Kings’ 90s logo, that was so important to [Los Angeles] and overall pop culture as a permanent alternate mark. The crest and stripes have a full proper silver material to them to honor that the club’s primary colors truly are Black, White and Silver.”

“The feedback from our players – current and past players – is they universally love this sweater,” Kings President Luc Robitaille said at the time. “Along with the strong sentiment from our fans, it was really a no-brainer for us to continue to highlight the logo, to highlight the jersey.”

The Kings wore these jerseys 15 times in total this season, including 10 times away from home. That’s nearly 25 percent of the road schedule, so there’s a lot of familiarity wearing them in visiting buildings. The Kings went 6-3-1 in those games and 9-4-2 in those games in total. That’s a .650 winning percentage on the road and a .666 winning percentage in total. In the regular away sweaters, the Kings had a 16-12-1 record on the road, equaling a .569 winning percentage.

The Kings have won 29 playoff games all-time with this logo on the front of the sweater. Not to say I’m a believer in any of those types of coincidences carrying over, but hey, I’ll take anything heading into the postseason.

Speaking of heading into the postseason, that gets underway tomorrow, with the first team practice of the playoffs. Kings will practice in El Segundo tomorrow at 11 AM and Sunday at 11 AM, before departing for Edmonton later on in the day. Morning skate on Monday will be held at 11:30 AM at Rogers Place in Alberta, before the teams hit the ice for Game 1 later on that evening. It was always you, Edmonton. It was always you.
