Sorry for the delay here, Insiders.
Sharing some information I am sure you know by this point, but Kings forward Kevin Fiala underwent a procedure, related to the injury he sustained at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan. Fiala is expected to miss the start of 2026 Training Camp.

Beyond the statement, I don’t have a ton of additional information to add here, unfortunately. Today’s news is related to what cost Fiala the remainder of the 2025-26 season but it’s also new information and an incremental procedure off of his surgery. It’s hard not to see this as a setback, especially this close to camp, but hopefully it allows him to get back to 100 percent. Completely different circumstances, but the second straight season we get one of these in the week leading up to camp, after Corey Perry sustained an injury during a captain’s skate last season.
Tough blow for 22 this close to camp.
Hard not to see this as a setback for Kevin, but it sounds like this is an incremental procedure, after his surgery in February and should hopefully aid his overall recovery towards being 100 percent. https://t.co/tpRulPrYms

On a personal note, truly hoping this is a small thing and not a larger setback. Fiala put a ton of work in to make his way back from the initial injury and if the Kings somehow extended their playoff run last season, Fiala is someone who would’ve done everything he could to get back. He cares and you want people who care.
The Kings built their team around top-end talent and depth on the wings and before the team hits the ice for Day 1, one of their top players at that position is out for an unknown period of time. Having Fiala in a lineup with Artemi Panarin and Mats Zuccarello was enticing. Now it’s in question. I guess you could look at it glass half full or glass half empty. The wingers, without Fiala, are not as strong as they were. The flip side of that is the depth in place – the Kings had players like Alex Laferriere and Trevor Moore potentially slotted to play on their third line and those are guys who have played in the top six here in the past. It’s a position the Kings are best equipped to handle an injury at. Having that kind of depth to step up is a positive but today’s news certainly weakens what was expected to be the team’s deepest position of strength, with just one week until camp begins.
Expecting to next hear on Fiala when camp opens one week from today on September 17 when Peter Laviolette will likely address the media. If I learn anything else here, I will add it to the article or create a separate post.
