Thanks to all who submitted questions via the thread posted over the weekend!
Presenting the answers!
We were able to tackle many of the questions submitted, but not every question made the final version for one reason or another. I went through the thread this afternoon and I think I gave my answer to any questions that we missed for one of those reasons…..apologies if I missed anyone on both, feel free to yell at me below. There were a lot of questions that were repeated or had crossover, so we tried our best to stack those together or we may have only included one variation but the answered covered multiple questions. With posters who submitted multiple questions, we didn’t answer the whole boat, as the video was already an hour long, but I went in and got to the ones that were missed in the video.
The focus here seemed pretty clear as I looked through everything. There are certainly some question marks here from the Insiders as it pertains to the direction of the Kings, both short term and long term. There was not much in terms of questioning the moves made this summer and I think that when you look at each transition in a vacuum, there isn’t really all that much to question. How those moves fit within the larger picture, though, is where the questions still remain. The bulk of what the Kings did addressed the forward group in the shorter-term. Is there more to come regarding the defensemen? I believe it’s still being explored. Where do these short-term moves position the Kings to make longer-lens improvements that are still needed higher in the lineup? How does the goaltending situation play out over the next 12 months? How does all of that fit into a vision of a team that is not a Cup contender but is also not rebuilding? I think those are the bigger questions coming out of the summer, after what I felt were individual moves that all had a purpose, helping the team short term in my opinion without compromising long-term flexibility.
As we move forward, the current plan is for Jared and I to do another video Q&A before training camp and perhaps one entering the season as well, depending on how things shake out over those couple of weeks. I think that we could be looking at a new series of questions, potentially, entering camp, depending on what the Kings do here over the next two months. If there’s not much there, a regular-season preview Q&A might make more sense, once we see what training camp has to offer, but I think there’s going to be new information and things we learn between now and when camp gets underway. I’d also like to get a fully written Q&A somewhere in August, because I think that we can offer a different sort of response here in the comments, as opposed to the video. There are benefits to both and I like the LAKI show, adding a new dimension here. We have a couple of additional summer interviews lined up which will hopefully continue to provide different viewpoints on the team.
More to come! Thank you again to everyone who helped with the questions and to all who listen this time around.
