REIGN FINAL – ONT 2, SJ 4

The Ontario Reign (5-3-1-0) fell to the San Jose Barracuda (3-5-0-0) Saturday night by a final score of 4-2 in front of 2,946 fans at Tech CU Arena. The Reign and Barracuda will meet Tuesday, Nov. 4 in Ontario at 7 p.m.

Taylor Ward made the game interesting scoring a six-on-four power-play score with Phoenix Copley on the bench making it a 3-2 deficit with 3:53 to play in regulation. 63 seconds later the Barracuda struck taking a 4-2 advantage. Ontario trailed 2-0 after the first period with a four-on-four tally and a short-handed strike before Martin Chromiak found the back of the net midway through the second period.

The Reign trailed 2-0 after the first period with the Barracuda holding the edge in shots 7-5. Jack Thomspon made it 1-0 at 8:07 with a four-on-four tally burying a rebound around the blue paint with an initial point shot from Lucas Carlsson. 21 seconds into Ontario’s lone power-play in the period Zack Ostapchuk short-handed made it 2-0 at 15:55 on a breakaway goal. He sent a shot from the inside hash marks past the blocker of Copley.

Ontario cut into their deficit into the second period trailing 2-1 after 40 minutes of play outshooting San Jose 11-9. Martin Chromiak (3rd) got the Reign on the board from Glenn Gawdin and Joe Hicketts at 10:23. Gawdin at the neutral circle fed Chromiak down the right wing. With speed Chromiak darted into the right circle and pulled the puck to his backhand at the top of the crease where he slid the puck through the legs of Carriere.

Quentin Musty struck on the power-play for the Barracuda at 7:34 of the third period giving San Jose a 3-1 lead on a shot from inside the inner hash marks. Trailing by two the Reign went on the power-play with 4:37 remaining in the contest and they would pull Copley for an extra attacker making it a six-on-four. Taylor Ward (5th) pulled the Reign back within one from Francesco Pinelli and Cole Guttman. From the right boards Guttman fed Pinelli in the high slot where he rung the left post with a wrist shot. Ward moved in from the right side of the goal line and sent a back hander into the net from inside the right circle a couple feet of the crease. 63 seconds later the Barracuda took a 4-2 lead when Pavol Regenda was setup on a two-on-one from Filip Bystedt.
