Los Angeles 3, Anaheim 1

Third Period
20:00 – Final period of the tournament has begun in Irvine!
18:08 – ANA GOAL: Washe gets Anaheim on the board. Absolutely nothing George could have done on that one. PPG for the Ducks, one timer from the slot with some action in front. Nice setup from Anaheim and it’s 3-1.
15:00 – I think this has been Koehn Ziemmer’s best showing in a Kings jersey over his three camps. The goals are great and we know he scored at the WHL level, three seasons with 30+ goals. He’s skated well though and there’s some tenacity to the way he’s played. Always a player with the opportunity to exceed his third-round draft status if he could put it together. An interesting player to watch in Ontario this season.
10:00 – Not a ton to report on here. There have been some half chances at both ends but this isn’t the barnburner we saw yesterday and I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. See what the Kings have in the tank over the final 10, having played yesterday.
4:48 – Big hit from Kenny Connors in the corner in the defensive zone. He’s done a little bit of everything today including his pair of goals.

Second Period
20:00 – Second period is a go, Kings/Ducks still looking for the game’s first goal.
17:04 – LAK GOAL: Koehn Ziemmer opens the scoring. Sick pass from Greentree to feed him in stride for a breakaway. Good finish low blocker side. 1-0 LAK. That’s two in two games for Ziemmer and Greentree showed some good, quick heads-up play with the puck on his stick.
12:17 – Second fight of the game. Nate Corbet going for the Kings. It’s such a short time here and Corbet, being on a try out, does well to try and make a name for himself, though he certainly lost that fight. 6-2 defenseman here from Kelowna of the WHL.
11:30 – LAK GOAL: Kenny Connors makes it 2-0 with a power-play goal. Connors impressed me yesterday in a lot of under-the-radar ways. Doesn’t have a ton of flash but when you see a play and ask yourself, “who was that” I found myself saying it was Connors quite often. Gets the reward today with the finish in tight.
10:21 – LAK GOAL: Well that’s a tough one. Anaheim goaltender Tomas Suchanek played the puck, went to rim it behind the net and just shot it into his own net. Wow. 3-0 Kings.
1:55 – Carter George saves, Carter George smothers. Story of the game certainly. Ducks have the shots on goal advantage but George continues to be equal to the challenge.
0:00 – Kings net three goals and will take a 3-0 lead into the final period of the 2025 Golden State Rookie Faceoff.

First Period
20:00 – Kings and Ducks are underway in the Rookie Faceoff Finale!
16:30 – Kings get their first power play of the game but are unable to produce. Some good movement at times but not really all that much in terms of incisiveness on that one. Thought it looked pretty sharp in Game 1.
12:43 – Ducks get the game’s first real Grade-A type of scoring chance but Carter George was equal with a right-shoulder save on a partial breakaway opportunity. Good early test for George in his first start of the tournament.
8:48 – First fight of the day is between Jared Wright and Jaxsen Wiebe. Not exactly a ton of that at the University of Denver. Not exactly the guy I expected to be in there either but Wright plays a hard and honest game. Not a bad thing to get the feet wet in that area.
4:48 – First Anaheim PP of the game. Lawrence gets another minor penalty, this one for a hit on Solberg, who was Anaheim’s first-round selection in 2024.
2:42 – Very, very tidy glove save from Carter George. Puck moved right to left in the offensive zone and George makes the glove save against the grain, stretching out the glove opposite from his body movement with the play. Impressive stuff. 10-of-10 thus far for George as we approach the end of the first period.
0:00 – Nothing on the board after 20 minutes. Neither team really controlled play the way the Kings did in the first period yesterday, but Anaheim had the best two chances overall. Would expect things to open up a bit in the final 40.
