The Colorado Eagles (30-14-5-2) were able to repeat their success from Friday night for a second consecutive day Saturday, defeating the Ontario Reign (31-17-2-1) by a 4-0 score at Blue Arena to move into sole possession of first place in the Pacific Division standings with 67 points.
Goaltender Trent Miner made it back-to-back shutouts against Ontario, stopping 26 shots to keep the Reign scoreless for six consecutive periods on the weekend.
The Eagles scored on their first power play opportunity of the game at 9:20 of the first when Tye Felhaber was left open in front of the net to put the home team ahead 1-0.
Chase Bradley extended Colorado’s lead to 2-0 at 15:35 of the opening period, one-timing a pass from the point by Reign netminder Pheonix Copley.
Despite 13 shots on net by Ontario in the second period, they were unable to solve Miner in the middle frame and fell further behind on the scoreboard when Chris Wagner scored for the second straight night at 12:42 to put the Eagles ahead 3-0.
The Reign got their only power play of the game at 13:15 of the third when Colorado’s Maros Jedlicka was called for tripping, but they were unsuccessful on the chance.
Coming out of the final media timeout of the game and just over four minutes left on the clock, Ontario pulled Copley for an extra attacker. Moments later, Felhaber capitalized and shot the puck into the empty net to tack on a final insurance tally for the Eagles at 16:04.
Copley finished the contest with 18 saves in a losing effort for Ontario, his fifth consecutive start in between the pipes.
Felhaber’s first period goal was the only man-advantage success in the game, with Colorado finishing 1-for-2 on the power play.
