Trent Miner made 29 saves and kept the Ontario Reign (31-16-2-1) off the board in a 4-0 shutout win for the Colorado Eagles (29-14-5-2) on Friday night at Blue Arena.
Pheonix Copley made the start for Ontario and turned out 22 of Colorado’s opportunities in a losing effort. The Eagles are now tied with the Reign in the Pacific Division standings, with each club having secured 65 points from 50 games played.
Neither team was able to manage a goal in the opening period, which consisted of nine shots on goal for Ontario and seven stops at the other end by Copley.
Jere Innala opened the scoring for Colorado at 4:42 of the second to make it 1-0 with a goal that was scored off a rush into the Ontario end.
Then while the Reign were on their second power play of the contest, Jake Wise added to the Eagles advantage with a shorthanded goal to push the lead to 2-0 at 6:51 of the middle frame.
Colorado added insurance while on the power play at 14:38 of the third when Chris Wagner swept a loose rebound in the crease past the goal line and make it a 3-0 game.
Wise capped off the scoring with his second of the game at 15:50 of the third while the Reign had Copley at the bench in exchange for an extra attacker in a late comeback attempt.
Wagner’s tally was the lone man-advantage strike of the game, which saw Colorado finish 1-for-3 on the power play and Ontario end at 0-for-4.
