SOG: LAK – 22 ANA – 20
PP: LAK – 1/2 ANA – 0/4
Third Period
20:00 – 20 minutes to play in Anaheim and the Kings re-enter the ice with a 3-0 edge.
19:16 – LAK Goal – As LA’s power play was about to expire, a shot by Quinton Byfield hit an Anaheim defender and trickled past the goal line, making it a 4-0 game. Assists on the man-advantage goal went to Jack Studnicka and Jordan Spence.
11:28 – Another favorable sequence for the fourth line that ended with a good chance for Andre Lee at the side of the Anaheim net. That trio has spent most of their ice time in the offensive end tonight, another good showing for the duo of Lee/Helenius.
6:49 – Kevin Fiala enters the penalty box for roughing, giving Anaheim its fourth PP chance of the game.
4:49 – The Kings kept the Ducks away from their net for the most part on their man-advantage look. Kuemper is now up to 20 saves on the night.
Second Period
20:00 – The teams are back on the ice for the middle frame. LA holds a 1-0 lead as we begin the second!
18:38 – LAK Goal – After Warren Foegele made a perfect outlet pass to Kevin Fiala in the neutral zone, Fiala and Vladislav Gavrikov executed a showy give-and-go play, which was capped off by a low shot from Gavrikov that slipped under Dansk. The Kings have extended their early edge to 2-0.
14:50 – LAK Goal – Akil Thomas has the Kings up 3-0 with his first goal of the preseason after driving to the net and directing a centering feed by Phillip Danault up high over Dansk’s glove. Jeannot picked up the second assist on the play, giving both he and Thomas a goal and an assist tonight.
10:56 – The Ducks have their third man-advantage of the game after Parker-Jones knocked an Anaheim player into the LA net, dislodging the goal.
8:40 – JPJ is out of the box and the Kings remain perfect on the penalty kill as we move into the second half of tonight’s game.
4:42 – The King haven’t backed off at all since extending their lead. They’ve carried the momentum from a strong penalty kill into three straight shifts which have been played almost exclusively in the offensive end, highlighted by Lee-Helenius-Parker-Jones who produced multiple looks in the Ducks’ zone.
1:16 – Ryan Strome cross-checked Moverare into the wall behind the LA net, giving the Kings a late-period power play.
0:00 – A lot to like for the Kings during the second, and they’ll have 44 seconds to work with on the man-advantage when the third period begins.
First Period
20:00 – Tonight’s game is underway in Anaheim!
18:20 – Anaheim pinned the Kings in their own zone on the opening shift of the game, earning three high-end chances at the net in the first 90 seconds. Kuemper had to dive to stop the first look from Sam Colangelo, before the second opportunity went off the post to his right.
16:04 – The Kings earn the first power play of the game on a cross-check by Brock McGinn on Akil Thomas.
15:55 – Moments into the man-advantage, Frank Vatrano broke into the LA end on a clean breakaway. Kuemper was there to make the save with his blocker on a quick-release wrister.
14:52 – Kuemper evened things up by knocking over an Anaheim skater at the side of the net. The interference call gives us 4-on-4 play.
8:25 – Mikey Anderson, who is paired with Jordan Spence this evening, hasn’t been shy getting the puck towards the net here in the first. By my count, he’s attempted at least five shots on goal.
7:02 – LAK Goal – Tanner Jeannot was in the perfect spot to scoop up a loose rebound off a right-point shot by Jacob Moverare. Jeannot moved the puck around Oscar Dansk’s pad and in to make it 1-0 for LA.
5:23 – Alex Turcotte hit with a holding call and Anaheim has its second power play of the first.
3:20 – The Kings got the kill and improved to 2-for-2 on the PK in the first. Anaheim had one shot on goal during the opportunity, which was batted out of the air from point-blank range and stopped by Kuemper’s chest.
0:00 – Anaheim tacked on a few more chances in the final minute of the period, ending the first with 10 shots on goal despite a 1-0 deficit.
