So who will be there?
The Kings also included a full camp roster, one which includes 63 players, broken down into six goaltenders, 20 defensemen and 37 forwards. The beauty of a training camp roster is that it ranges all the way from the future Hall of Fame center to the tryout defenseman, and everywhere in between. With back-to-back preseason games and seven exhibition contests in total, the organization will have the opportunity to offer a wide variety of players game time in the preseason, while managing the minutes and exertion of the veterans.
The full camp roster is broken down as follows –
Goaltenders (6) – Pheonix Copley, David Hrenak, Jacob Ingham, Cal Petersen, Jonathan Quick, Matthew Villalta
Defensemen (20) – Frederic Allard, Mikey Anderson, Tobie Bisson, Tobias Bjornfot, Angus Booth, Brandt Clarke, Drew Doughty, Sean Durzi, Alex Edler, Cameron Gaunce, Helge Grans, Tyler Inamoto, Landon Kosior, Marc Lajoie, Jacob Moverare, Kim Nousiainen, Matt Roy, Jordan Spence, Cameron Supryka, Sean Walker
Forwards (37) – Eric Alarie, Jaret Anderson-Dolan, Lias Andersson, Viktor Arvidsson, Quinton Byfield, Martin Chromiak, Phillip Danault, Jacob Doty, Aidan Dudas, Riley Fiddler-Schultz, Samuel Fagemo, Kevin Fiala, Carl Grundstrom, Samuel Helenius, Alex Iafallo, Arthur Kaliyev, Brett Kemp, Adrian Kempe, Anze Kopitar, Rasmus Kupari, Kaleb Lawrence, Andre Lee, Brendan Lemieux, Blake Lizotte, Tyler Madden, Trevor Moore, Justin Nachbaur, Francesco Pinelli, Alan Quine, James Stefan, Akil Thomas, Nate Thompson, Alex Turcotte, T.J. Tynan, Gabriel Vilardi, Austin Wagner, Taylor Ward
A formal roster is available here.
The Kings currently have 47 players signed to NHL contracts and all 47 will attend training camp, in addition to several unsigned draft picks, players under contract with the AHL’s Ontario Reign and training camp invites, many of whom skated with the team in the Rookie Faceoff in San Jose last weekend.
Regarding a few who are on the above list, Head Coach Todd McLellan shared recently in an interview with Dennis Bernstein and John Hoven that Viktor Arvidsson, who had offseason back surgery, has resumed skating but may not be 100 percent ready for opening night. Regarding Sean Durzi, who had offseason shoulder surgery, he could also be slow getting up to speed but the expectation at this time is that he should be ready for October 11. All other players coming off of injuries, including Drew Doughty and Sean Walker, are expected to be ready to go tomorrow morning.
Included in this group are 28 players who played games with the Kings last season, as well as three players who played NHL games with other organizations. One of the latter three is forward Nate Thompson, who will attend camp on a professional try out (PTO). Thompson appeared in 79 regular-season games and four postseason contests with the Kings during the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons and saw action in 33 games with Philadelphia a season ago. Thompson is a regular in the area during the summer, skating informally with other local pro players, and is here on a try out basis as he evaluates next steps.
Speaking of next steps, one more sleep until we get underway with main camp!
