What The Experts Said

NHL Central Scouting’s Jean-Francois Damphousse
Angus Booth of Shawinigan had a couple injuries in the second half, but he’s a quality two-way guy, really reliable defensively, and has a good first pass. He’s someone to keep an eye on.

Corey Pronman, The Athletic
Booth is a mobile defenseman with some skill who was an important two-way defenseman for Shawinigan. He has some talent, but I wouldn’t say his offensive touch pops and while he defends well in junior the question will be whether he can be a standout at either end of the rink to carve out an NHL role.

Quick Take – The Kings have a terrific history of selecting defensemen in Round 4 – Alec Martinez, Mikey Anderson, Jordan Spence, Jacob Moverare – so we’ll defer to their judgement in that role. Booth played a role as a two-way defenseman on the QMJHL champions as an 18-year-old and was right around a half-point-per-game in his draft-eligible season. Booth’s defensive reliability is likely more of a calling point than his offensive game, and his development over the next two seasons will be interesting in seeing what type of player he could become as a professional.
