Good morning, Washington, and good morning, Insiders.

The drive from Dulles is a long one, and we’ll be doing a touch more commuting around New York than we traditionally do, but come on. Driving to and from rinks and airports this trip takes us past the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Watergate Hotel, the Ellipse, the White House, the Statue of Liberty, One World Trade Center and Times Square. This is surely the Empire Trip, a glass-and-steel ode to centers of American capitalism, ingenuity and sacrifice. We will also visit Newark.

The team should see some rain on this trip, but no drops fell during an easy 10-minute walk from our hotel to the rink on a morning that represented a +3.7% °FRel from what would be expected this time of the year. I’m breaking a very important rule by sharing a note after leaving the hotel, so let’s rewind to yesterday’s approach into IAD:
