Good morning, Fort Lauderdale, and good morning, Insiders.
Yes! Fort Lauderdale! A great and different road city! The beach! Short sleeves! A recovery day!
::steps outside on balcony into piercingly bright light::
Ehh, maybe I should just put a hat on.
::quickly learns the balcony radiates heat::
Well, it’s better than Winnipeg this time of year.
::returns inside after 38 seconds in direct sunlight::
And so the LA Kings road show continues on to South Florida, where the players and fathers and brothers will hop on air boats and tour the swampland around Sawgrass Recreation Park. I was going to offer $25 towards LAKI GOLD STATUS to any dad who snuck onto TPC Sawgrass and birdied the 17th hole before learning that course is actually in Jacksonville and would therefore necessitate an extremely long and redundant drive to accrue non-legal tender for something that sounds illegal. But that’s a really, really cool hole.
The Kings were deposited in the area after a 39-minute flight from Tampa, where a circuitous route into the airport transported us through some back channel security gate. I wasn’t sure if we were about to enter a secure airport runway or wade into a swamp in search of orchids with Meryl Streep and Chris Cooper.
If there are Insiders with good Cuban recommendations in the area, throw ’em out there. This is a Fort Lauderdale day, though. Thank you in advance for the Little Havana suggestions; while we did consider taking the train down to Miami, we’re staying local this afternoon.
Insiders! You’re the best. Thank you for reading. WUWTK follows. More to come from our Atlantic Coast blog HQ.
