It must have been Luff, but it’s over now. (Temporarily, at least.)
Matt Luff wasn’t expected to be in the lineup for today’s matinee against St. Louis – the final game before the bye week and All-Star break – so the LA Kings assigned him to AHL-Ontario, where he’ll be expected to face San Diego at 3:00 p.m. this afternoon and Colorado next Friday and Saturday. All games are at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
The 21-year-old has appeared in 30 games with Los Angeles, totaling 10 points (7-3=10) in his rookie season. Luff’s production and playing time has dipped since the Christmas break, a personal seven-game span in which he has been held scoreless while sporting a 38.8% Corsi-for percentage. Per Natural Stat Trick, he has been on the ice for 20 scoring chances for and 38 against during the 60:49 of five-on-five time through those seven games.
There is the likelihood that additional players who’ve split time between the Kings and Reign this season will be assigned to Ontario over the next two days. Los Angeles faces St. Louis this afternoon in their final game before returning to action February 2 at the New York Islanders. The only lineup move expected is Paul LaDue entering in place of Sean Walker. Jonathan Quick is expected to start in goal. Jordan Binnington will start in net for the Blues, who will be without David Perron (upper-body). Two-time Stanley Cup-winner Jordan Nolan will skate as the fourth line left wing for St. Louis.
