Camp opens at Toyota Sports Center

Good morning from El Segundo, Insiders. Welcome to training camp, 2018.

Naturally, we get a lot of questions right now about camp groups. “What are the groups, Insider?” “Is Tyler Toffoli in A, B or C?” “What times will Group A practice on Friday, Saturday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and what does it mean that Mikey Eyssimont is skating with Brett Sutter? What are you hiding from us?”

Whoa, whoa, whoa. One question at a time. You first.

So, the groups are likely to change. We’re told that A and B will be veteran-heavy. This morning, Group A is mostly Ontario skaters. They aligned thusly:

Grey: Kovalchuk-Kopitar-Brown
White: Luff-Anderson-Dolan-Wagner
Purple: Morrison-Thomas-Devane
Yellow: Eyssimont-Sutter-Mitchell
Red: Forbort

Defensemen in black were Walker, Falkovsky, Moverare, MacDermid, Doughty and Brickley, the latter two of whom skated together. Forbort, who was a partial participant in practice wearing a red jersey, skated for 30 minutes before calling it a day. That’s it for now as we watch camp. Lots more to come, Insiders.
