Defenseman Stephen Johns has committed himself to hard minutes as part of a thriving Dallas Stars team game that relies on the full commitment from all 20 players in any given lineup. While offense has increased across the league this season, Dallas’ goals-against have actually decreased from 3.17 per game to 2.64. It’s part of a bought-in commitment to win the puck back after losing it and create scoring opportunities off effective checking. “When you’ve bought into that, that puts the work in before the skill,” Ken Hitchcock said of his team, which is excellent in five-on-five play. Speaking with LA Kings Insider, Johns weighed in on the team’s reduced goals and chances against, and whether this is the year for Notre Dame to win a national championship in men’s ice hockey.
