Brown, Brodzinski preview tonight’s game, discuss remainder of the schedule

It’s the final game before the 2016-17 Kings season segues into a weekend in which the organization and fans recognize Bob Miller’s legendary broadcasting career, so from a player’s standpoint, what is it that the team would like to focus on tonight and apply to the final two games?

“Just play our game, really,” Dustin Brown said. “Our season’s over from a playoff standpoint, but there are a lot of guys with a lot of pride in here, so you still want to play your best regardless of the situation, so it’s just doing that.”

For more on tonight’s season finale against Calgary, as well as the fundamentals of taking a hit along the boards to make a play, Brown and Jonny Brodzinski have you covered.

Dustin Brown, on his line’s play in the win over Edmonton:
We got the puck to the net. Lewie’s goal is a good example. It goes off him into the net and I thought we had, we could’ve been a lot better. Defensively we were on the ice for three goals against so it’s just shoring up those little plays.

Brown, on the fundamentals of driving to the net when entering the zone:
I mean, a lot of it is just reading, because there’s opportunities that you need to take and get your feet going wide and there’s other chances where you’re coming in and they have a really good gap or really good angle on you. More or less you almost chip it behind him and try to get it yourself, so the first part is the read and once you have the chance to go wide, you’ve just got to get going.

Brown, on whether he expects the emotion of last week’s game against Calgary to carry over:
We’ll see. I think a lot of the stuff with the Drew situation was addressed and at the end of the day they’re trying to fight, claw.

Jonny Brodzinski, on whether he finds himself “looking for seams more” than in Ontario:
Yeah, I think it’s just a lot harder work trying to find those spots now. But last game with Dowder, me and him have played together for a long time so we just kind of click, but you’ve got to fight a little harder just to find those spots.

Brodzinski, on what aspects of his game he’ll be trying to improve in the off-season:
I just think it’s the defensive part of the game. I think it’s just a totally different level here, just trying to stick with your defenseman. American League, the D kind of just stay stationary. Here they’re really all over the place so I think it’s just the ability to stay with the defenseman. You know, just knowing all the roles. If you’ve got to switch with the centerman, that’s a tough job, too.

Brodzinski, on whether his Tuesday performance indicates his first goal could come soon:
Yeah, and then a couple grade-A’s in the game before that, too, that I just kind of fanned on, but yeah. Just keep plugging away, finding my chances, and one will pop in.

Brodzinski, on whether actual goals follow the feeling of being close to scoring:
Yeah. The puck kind of finds its way to the spots that I go to, and I can just feel how the game’s going, and maybe get a few shots right away in the game and your blood starts pumping a little bit and then you play well the rest of the game.
