March 12 postgame quotes: Mersch, Brodzinski

Michael Mersch, on getting the win after losing three in a row:
It was nice. We outshot them last night but didn’t get the results and then we carried it over into today and finished strong so you know, you don’t have a lapse in that third period there. We finished strong and I think that’s good for us.

Mersch, on the mood in the locker room after the win:
I think it’s huge for our confidence, especially when we’ve kind of had a little dry spell here. You know, to get all those shots, we’ve kind of been getting outshot so to outshoot a team, get the victory, it’s big for us.

Mersch, on his second period goal and Purcell’s pass that led to the breakaway:
Well with him you’ve just got to go ’cause he’s going to find a lane no matter what. Had a breakaway against these guys before and I went to my backhand so I just figured I’d shoot it this time.

Jonny Brodzinski, on scoring an early goal and the confidence that comes with it:
I think it’s just good that, when the whole line’s going I think it’s something special. Obviously that first period I don’t think we left their zone the entire period so I think just when things are clicking pucks are finding their way on to each other’s tape and going towards the net and the juices are flwoing a little bit so it was good.

Brodzinski, on the Reign’s start to the game:
It started with the first shift. I think our line kind of went out there and had a good start and I think we just kind of kept rolling after that. I think we had four or five shots in the first shift so I think everybody kind of got up on the bench after that one and kind of took it to them after that.

Brodzinski, on a “dominating” performance after going 1-3-1 in their last 5 games:
Yeah, I mean, it’s tough when you have a few games and you’re not playing your best hockey or you’re playing pretty well one period and then the next period you’re the worst team in the league. So it’s nice to finally put together a full game. Great shutout by Soupy and I think our defense did a great job getting the pucks up to the forwards. The forwards, I think we had a lot better second opportunities tonight, too. Shots off pads and stuff like that. Yesterday we were throwing them right into his glove so I think a well-rounded game by everybody.

Brodzinski, on whether a recall by the Kings is something he thinks about:
No. Just trying to keep plugging away down here and just trying my best for this team right now.
