November 15 practice notes: Trotman ‘a ways away’ from return

Greetings again from the coldest rink in SoCal, Ontario Center Ice, where the Reign seem to be practicing here much more than I would have hoped this season.

–The Reign traveled on Monday so Tuesday was their first practice of the week in preparation for their Friday road game against Stockton. The practice was a heavy systems day that ended with a good conditioning skate, also known as a “work day,” as head coach Mike Stothers coins them. From a Kings development staff standpoint, Sean O’Donnell was on the ice and Nelson Emerson was in attendance to watch.

–Defenseman Zach Trotman (upper-body) did not practice. As a result of Trotman’s absence and the odd number of defensemen, Paul Bissonnette was paired with Rob Scuderi to make an even eight. “I still don’t know the length of it. He’s a ways away,” Stothers said. “I don’t know how much it’s improved since we got back. Spoke with him briefly this morning, but still experiencing quite a bit of discomfort so can’t see that subsiding any time soon.” Trotman sustained the injury in last week’s game against San Antonio and did not travel with the Reign to Iowa and Rockford.

–Goalie Jonah Imoo (lower-body) did not take part in the regular session with his teammates but did take the ice following the conditioning portion to take shots. Imoo has not played since suffering a lower-body injury on Oct. 29. “He’s not doing a whole lot yet so it’s still going to be some time,” Stothers said.
